New homes open in Greenock 30th August 2001 A housing project in Greenock has transformed a derelict site into eight new homes for rent. Cloch Housing Association was today celebrating the completion of the small development in Lyle Street, which includes two flats suitable for elderly people.
Scottish Homes supported the development, in the town’s Wellpark area, with grant funding of more than £370,000. The total project cost was over £510,000.
Jennie Hynd, Operations Director for Scottish Homes South and West region, said: “This Cloch development has created good quality, well designed homes for rent on a site which had lain vacant for a number of years.
“Not only has it enhanced the area, but residents can enjoy the benefits of being close to the town centre and local amenities.”
All of the homes incorporate barrier-free features and flats designed for elderly people include floors on a level access, wider doors which can accommodate wheelchairs and light switches and sockets set at more accessible heights.
Cloch Housing Association Chairperson, Harry Dunlop, said: “The Association is delighted to see the completion of these high quality, affordable homes for local people in Greenock. I am sure they will be enjoyed by our tenants and are a boost to the regeneration of the town centre area.”
Councillor Stephen McCabe, Convenor of Inverclyde Council’s Social Work and Housing Committee, performed the opening ceremony at the new homes.
